Love spurned man killed his girlfriend after she dumped him
In a tragic case that has sent shockwaves through the community of eDwaleni Trust in the district of KaBokweni, a 45-year-old man, Ramoula Vernon Brown, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mpumalanga High Court for the premeditated murder of his girlfriend, Precious Nomthandazo Mnguni.
Brown was also found guilty of contravening the Domestic Violence Act in the heinous crime that took place in 2021.
The court heard that Brown, following the couple’s breakup, viciously attacked Mnguni by pouring petrol over her and setting her alight.
The victim, aged 30, tragically succumbed to her injuries as a result of the brutal assault.
Brown and Mnguni had been in a romantic relationship and shared a child together, making the circumstances of the crime even more devastating.
According to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Monica Nyuswa, Brown’s violent behavior escalated after the breakup, leading Mnguni to seek legal protection through a court-issued protection order.
Despite the conditions prohibiting Brown from assaulting Mnguni or entering her home, he disregarded the court’s orders and carried out the horrific act on August 21, 2021, at Mnguni’s residence.
The sentencing of Ramoula Vernon Brown to life imprisonment for premeditated murder and violation of the Domestic Violence Act serves as a reminder of the grave consequences of gender-based violence and the urgent need for stronger measures to protect victims.
