Edwin Sodi’s empire is crumbling as government takes steps to ban him

The Department of Public Works has taken legal steps to ban one of Edwin Sodi’s companies, G-5 Group, from doing business with the state.

This comes after the City of Tshwane requested a ban on Sodi’s companies due to poor performance in a joint venture to upgrade the Rooiwal wastewater treatment plant.

Tshwane has also requested that the companies and their directors be blacklisted for 10 years.

Spokesperson for the Department of Public Works, Lennox Mabasa, stated that they are now in the process of banning several companies, including G-5 Group, from doing business with the state.

The department’s lawyers are in communication with the companies’ lawyers, and they have already moved to the process of restriction.

Mabasa emphasized that the department is not relenting and is seeking recourse for the injustices they have suffered from these companies.

Last year, the department terminated G-5 Group’s contract to upgrade and extend the Parys prison in the Free State. The company abandoned the project before completion.

Public Works Minister Sihle Zikalala warned that construction companies and developers who abandon projects will be barred from doing business with the government.

This warning came during Zikalala’s tour of the incomplete Parys correctional facility and Park Road police station.

Mabasa revealed that the department has already recommended seven service providers to the Treasury for blacklisting for 10 years.
