Happy Nyawuza killed by foreign spaza shop owners in Ratanda
The community of Ratanda has been rocked by yet another tragic incident, as Happy Nyawuza, the chairperson of the Ratanda Mazibuye Kazi Spaza Shops Business Forum, was gunned down and killed in Heidelberg Road.
This senseless killing follows the recent killings of Mandla Moqoqo, the forum’s secretary, and Moeketsi Mollo, a tuck-shop owner.
The community of Ratanda is reeling in shock as there has been a dramatic increase in such crimes following the removal of foreign owned Spaza shops.
It is alleged that Happy Nyawuza received many death threats from Foreign Spaza shop owners who allegedly hired Basotho, Zama-zama, hitmen to execute him.

It is further alleged that the remaining leaders are also receiving death threats and are currently in hiding.
Nyawuza is known as an active community leader who has been instrumental in advocating for residents in Ratanda and surrounding areas.
He will be remembered as a strong political figure and local activist in the Lesedi Local region.
Described as a tireless leader fighting for change in Ratanda, Happy’s untimely death has deeply saddened the community.
The South African Police Service in Ratanda confirmed that a fatal shooting incident that took place on Friday evening (March 1) at Mtshali Street in Ratanda.

According to the police reports, two African males, both adults, were shot by unidentified assailants who fled the scene during loadshedding, a period of scheduled power outages in the area.
Sadly, both victims succumbed to their injuries on the scene, despite efforts by paramedics to save them.
“Upon investigating the crime scene, the police recovered several cartridges, but the exact number of suspects involved remains unclear at this point. As of now, the motive behind the shooting is unknown,” confirmed the Ratanda SAPS spokesperson Constable Moss Maluleke.
Residents are calling for an end to the violence and for the authorities to take swift action in bringing those responsible to justice.
