Store owner runs over suspect following a robbery at his shop

On Monday afternoon, an armed robbery suspect met an unusual end while attempting to flee from the scene in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) .

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Phoenix Operations Centre responded to a call for assistance around 16:41, reporting that four individuals had robbed a local fruit and vegetable business, taking both cash and cellphones.

The perpetrators wanted to escape in a silver Toyota Avanza, but their plans were foiled when the store owner intervened, using his Toyota Fortuner to collide with the getaway vehicle.

During the chaos, one suspect was ejected from the Avanza and run over by the Fortuner, while the others managed to escape by speeding away in an unknown direction.

The vigilant victim managed to restrain the 30-year-old suspect until Reaction Officers arrived on site.

Upon investigation, a substantial sum of cash and a stolen cellphone were recovered from the suspect’s possession. Additionally, officers discovered a .357 Magnum revolver with six rounds of ammunition hidden in a nearby bush, its serial number was filed off

Both the suspect and the seized items were transferred to the police for further investigation.
