Suspect confesses to deliberately starting Joburg CBD fire which killed 76 people. See why he did it

The fire at the Usindiso building in the Johannesburg CBD is a tragedy that has left a deep impact on Gauteng’s economic hub.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is now working on corroborating evidence from the man who confessed to being responsible for the deadly fire.

Sthembiso Lawrence Mdlalose, a 31-year-old man, made his first appearance at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. The case was postponed as the NPA continues to gather evidence.

Mdlalose provided explosive testimony during the Commission of Inquiry into the fatal fire at the Usindiso building.

In his testimony, Mdlalose claimed that he was high on crystal meth at the time of the incident.

He alleged that the fire started when he murdered someone and set their body on fire in an attempt to cover up the crime.

This shocking revelation has added a new layer of complexity to the case.

Mdlalose now faces serious charges, including 76 counts of premeditated murder, 86 counts of attempted murder, and one count of arson.

The NPA is determined to ensure that justice is served for the 76 lives lost in this devastating incident.

The Usindiso building fire has brought to light the dangers of drug abuse and the devastating consequences it can have on individuals and communities.

It is a reminder that we need to address the root causes of drug addiction and provide support to those who are struggling.
