A Tanzanian man arrested with 89 boxes of illegal cigarettes during operation of multiple arrests

During the Easter period from Thursday, March 28 to Saturday, March 30, 2024, the Provincial Vispol Task Team executed a series of operations resulting in the arrest of nine suspects, aged between 30 and 45, for various offenses.

On Thursday, March 28, a 34-year-old male suspect was apprehended for Assault GBH in the Botlokwa policing area. In another operation, a 40-year-old male suspected of possessing an unlicensed hunting firearm in Seloroto, Makgaung village was swiftly arrested with the firearm and ammunition in his possession.

Additionally, two suspects aged 30 and 42 were arrested in collaboration with other task teams following a robbery and assault on a police officer in Ha-Mangilasi village. They were found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Another arrest occurred on the same day around 22:00, targeting suspected rhino poachers traveling in a silver Toyota Corolla. Four suspects, aged between 34 and 45, were apprehended for conspiracy to commit rhino poaching, possession of a firearm part, and illegal immigration.

Truck discovered with illegal cigarettes

On Friday, March 29, police intercepted a white Isuzu Truck loaded with eighty-nine (89) boxes of Remington Gold illicit cigarettes valued at approximately R534,000. A 45-year-old Tanzanian national was arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes, and the truck was impounded. Additionally, a 44-year-old woman was fined for selling liquor without a license at Hamangilasi village.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the relentless efforts of the Provincial Vispol Task Team in combating crime in the province.
