Nigerian woman Patience Precious Abudu arrested for human trafficking

Patience Precious Abudu, aged 33, was arrested by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, Strand South African Police Service (SAPS), and Strand Neighborhood Watch, on charges of human trafficking.

The arrest followed an investigation into an incident on December 16, 2023, where two young foreign nationals were rescued from a residence in George, having been trafficked into South Africa.

On March 8, 2024, warrants of arrest were issued for the two individuals suspected of trafficking the victims into the country.

On March 14, 2024, information led authorities to Strand, Cape Town, where one of the wanted suspects was located and arrested by the Hawks tracing team.

During the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of two passports, various bank cards, and R29,000.00 in cash.

The suspect appeared before the George Magistrates’ Court on March 15, 2024, and the case was adjourned to March 19, 2024, to set a date for a bail application. In the meantime, she has been remanded in custody.
