Matric student leaves behind 2-year-old child after she was murdered by her jealous older baby daddy

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Social Development, Nonhlanhla Khoza, has commended law enforcement agencies for their swift action in apprehending a 25-year-old man suspected of brutally murdering his 18-year-old girlfriend, Zanele Khathi.

The IOL states that the tragic incident, which occurred over the weekend in KwaDumisa on the KZN South Coast, has left the community reeling and sparked outrage over the ongoing issue of gender-based violence.

Zanele, a Grade 12 learner and mother of a two-year-old child, had reportedly been enduring persistent abuse from the suspect, who is also the father of her child.

Witnesses recounted a horrifying scene of the suspect entering Zanele’s home, followed by her desperate cries for help as she was allegedly assaulted and suffocated. Despite attempts to intervene, Zanele tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Expressing her grief and condemnation of the heinous act, MEC Khoza stated, “We acknowledge this tragic passing of a young woman with heavy hearts. The family was still expecting a lot from this child, but her life was cut short by a heartless individual.”

Khoza further revealed the extent of Zanele’s suffering, stating, “We were informed that she was taken by him to his homestead last week, returning home the following day with injuries so severe that she could not attend school.”

The suspect, who fled the scene after the attack, was later apprehended at a settlement in Reservoir Hills, Durban.

This swift action by law enforcement has been lauded by MEC Khoza, who emphasized the importance of bringing the perpetrator to justice.
