Man stabs girlfriend in the heart after she reminded him of his cheating
A KwaZulu-Natal man, Sanele Lex Khwela, has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, Nokulunga Mbanjwa.
He stabbed her after she reminded him of cheating on her.
The 26-year-old appeared before acting Judge Nomfundo Sipunzi in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, where he entered into a plea and sentence agreement.
Khwela admitted to the brutal act, which occurred on February 3, 2024, following an argument with Mbanjwa.
In his plea, presented by Legal Aid attorney Amanda Hulley, Khwela detailed the events of that fateful night.
He explained that they had spent the evening at a friend’s home in Donnybrook, consuming Belgravia gin.
As they walked home in the early hours of the morning, an argument erupted, fueled by Mbanjwa’s reminders of Khwela’s past infidelity.
Overwhelmed by anger, Khwela confessed to pulling out an Okapi knife and stabbing Mbanjwa multiple times in the chest, inflicting a fatal wound to her heart. Realizing the severity of his actions, Khwela fled the scene in fear.
He was later apprehended by police while at a neighbour’s house.
