Heads roll as Chippa Mpengesi tightens security ahead of Kaizer Chiefs clash

Chippa United Chairman Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi has announced plans to enhance security measures at Buffalo City Stadium in preparation for the upcoming clash between Chippa United and Kaizer Chiefs on April 6.

The highly anticipated match is expected to attract thousands of fans to the East London venue.

Following security and crowd management challenges experienced during a previous match between Chippa United and Cape Town City in February, Mpengesi emphasized the need for improved security protocols to ensure a smooth and incident-free event.

“Security and orderliness will be paramount on match day. We urge all attendees to behave respectfully and follow the guidelines set forth for a safe and enjoyable experience. Any form of hooliganism will not be tolerated, ensuring a festive and family-friendly atmosphere.”

Recalling the delays caused by late gate openings during the previous match, Mpengesi acknowledged the importance of addressing such issues to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

Speaking at a press briefing, Mpengesi underscored the significance of maintaining security and orderliness during the match.

He urged attendees to adhere to guidelines for a safe and enjoyable experience, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards hooliganism to cultivate a festive and family-friendly atmosphere at the stadium.

Describing the previous match against Cape Town City as a “trial run,” Mpengesi acknowledged the need for improvements based on lessons learned from past mistakes.

He highlighted the importance of prioritizing attendee safety by considering the deployment of a private security company for enhanced security measures.

Tickets for the upcoming match went on sale, with general admission priced at R100 and VIP access at R500.
