SuperSport United demonstrated more strength than Pirates in a tough PSL match at Peter Mokaba Stadium, securing a 3-1 victory over The Buccaneers on Saturday evening.

While Bradley Grobler and Shandre Campbell fought hard to score, Pirates’ goalkeeper, Melusi Buthelezi, made a crucial error, gifting Campbell his second goal.

Buthelezi had plenty o time to play a back pass from Miguel Timm, but he hesitated, allowing Campbell to seize the opportunity and steal the ball.

Pirates’ coach, Riveiro, visibly frustrated with Buthelezi, shared his thoughts on the simple mistake. Meanwhile, SuperSport has moved closer to Mamelodi Sundowns on the PSL log, while the Buccaneers are left dealing with the defeat.

Gavin Hunt’s team secured maximum points against all three Soweto teams: Pirates, Moroka Swallows, and Kaizer Chiefs.

What Riveiro said about Buthelezi

Riveiro told SuperSport TV as reported by GOAL

“We started very well, we had an opportunity to double the lead and exactly at that moment we conceded one transition and it was 1-1.

“In the second half we started well but they punished us also, in a very absurd mistake for the third goal.

“It was a great game that we could have finished off with a different result but time was on their side.”

Pirates and SuperSport find themselves in a competition for the second spot in the league, contending with outsiders Cape Town City and Stellenbosch, as they vie for a place in the CAF Champions League.

SuperSport is presently participating in the CAF Confederation Cup, while Pirates did not advance to the group stages of the Champions League this season.

Both teams are now focusing on their last matches of the year in the PSL in the upcoming week.
