23-year-old woman arrested for murder after drowning six-year-old girl
A 23-year-old suspect, Noluvuyo Sinyikatha, from Zangci Location in Mqanduli, has been remanded in custody following the tragic drowning of a six-year-old girl on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, in Upper Ngqwarha, Mqanduli.
According to police reports, Sinyikatha allegedly lured the young girl to a nearby dam, where she drowned her, leaving the child’s body in the water. The body was later discovered by a passerby, who alerted authorities. Initially, an inquest was opened by Mqanduli police for investigation.
After a thorough investigation, the case was reclassified as murder, and Sinyikatha was arrested and charged. She appeared in the Mqanduli Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 04 September 2024, and has been remanded in custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, 09 September 2024, for a formal bail application.
