CCTV footage shows man being stabbed for just R100 during robbery
A 71-year-old pensioner was stabbed to death and robbed of R100 while on his way to the shop.
The shocking incident was captured on CCTV footage, which later went viral on social media, shedding light on the heinous crime that occurred on a pathway between Cathedral Street and Klaarwater Road.
Community leader Previn Vedan expressed his deep sorrow and concern over the brutal attack on the elderly man, emphasizing the need to protect and respect vulnerable members of society.
Vedan stated, “No one should ever have to endure such a horrific ordeal, especially not our elderly residents who deserve our utmost respect and protection.”
He highlighted the importance of prioritizing safety and security measures within the community, calling for increased police patrols and active participation in the Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) neighbourhood watch program.
Vishal Lachman, chairperson of the Shallcross CPF and PRO of the Chatsworth CPF, echoed the sentiments of shock and sorrow within the community following the tragic incident.
Lachman emphasized that this was an isolated incident and outlined the community’s focus on educating the elderly on safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
He mentioned plans to engage with the police to provide safety education to senior citizens through old age organizations.
