Final witness testifies in Meyiwa case ahead of 10-year mark
As the trial for Senzo Meyiwa’s murder approaches its ten-year anniversary, the lead investigator has revealed crucial details in the Pretoria High Court.
Brigadier Bongani Gininda told the court that two of the accused provided false information in their confessions, which he examined during his investigation into the case.
Gininda identified inconsistencies in the confessions of Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi, both of whom implicated Meyiwa’s girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, as the person who orchestrated the hit.
He noted that Sibiya had even taken police to the crime scene, demonstrating that the murder had been planned in a hostel in Vosloorus.
Furthermore, Gininda explained that Sibiya had implicated his friends, Marco and Makhimba Buthelezi, claiming they contacted him while he was at the hostel during the week of the murder.
Sibiya stated that Marco told him Khumalo had hired them to kill Meyiwa.
However, Gininda clarified that this was false, as his investigation revealed the Buthelezi brothers were incarcerated in KwaZulu-Natal from 2013 to 2016, making it impossible for them to have been involved in the murder.
Gininda accused Sibiya of attempting to mislead the police by falsely implicating the Buthelezi brothers.
Various rumours surrounding Meyiwa’s murder have circulated over the past decade, and five men currently on trial have all pleaded not guilty.
With Gininda as the last state witness, the trial reaches a pivotal moment in the ongoing search for justice.
