uMkhonto weSizwe Party fires it’s premier candidate

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has dismissed Nhlanhla Ngidi as its KwaZulu-Natal premier candidate. Ngidi, who previously served as director-general of the KZN provincial government, topped the party’s provincial candidate list prior to his removal. The decision was communicated to him through a letter on Monday.

This action follows the party’s removal of its Youth League leader, Bonginkosi Khanyile, from his position just a week earlier. In the letter, MK’s secretary-general, Sihle Ngubane, outlined that Ngidi’s future role will now be as a regular member of the party within the province.

Similar to Khanyile, Ngidi will receive notice of redeployment at a later stage.”You are hereby removed from a position of provincial coordinator in KwaZulu-Natal of uMkhonto weSizwe Party and this removal is effective from today. Your role going forward will be notified of your redeployment in due cause. MK Party appreciates your role played this far,” the letter read.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party, which is less than a year old, is led by former President Jacob Zuma, known for his history of late-night cabinet reshuffles during his tenure as the country’s president.

This move comes shortly after the dismissal of the party’s Youth League leader, Bonginkosi Khanyile, whose removal was announced in a letter on April 9, 2024. Both letters were similar, with little explanation provided for the dismissals.

Khanyile, a controversial figure who had previously threatened unrest if Zuma was not on the ballot paper, has not made any public comments since his removal from his position.
