Two suspects entered prison warden’s house and left her dead

The tragic murder of Zoleka Phillips, a warden at the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) in George, has sent shockwaves through the community of Thembalethu.

The Herald reports that Phillips, aged 46, was gunned down inside her own home on Sunday evening, April 21st, in what appears to be a targeted attack.

As the investigation unfolds, the motive behind this senseless act remains shrouded in mystery.

Reports indicate that two armed assailants forcibly entered Phillips’ residence, unleashing a barrage of gunfire upon her.

Sustaining fatal injuries to her head, neck, and right leg, Phillips was rushed to the hospital by private transport but tragically succumbed to her wounds upon arrival.

The swift and violent nature of the attack has left both law enforcement officials and the community bewildered.

Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies has confirmed that the incident occurred around 20:40, yet the motive for Phillips’ murder remains elusive.

With the investigation still in its preliminary stages, authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could shed light on this heinous crime.

Despite an outpouring of condolences from colleagues and officials, the haunting question of why Phillips was targeted lingers unanswered.

Acting Regional Commissioner of DCS, Veliswa Mvandaba, expressed profound sadness over Phillips’ untimely demise.

Employed by the department since 2008, Phillips was respected among her peers, making her sudden and violent death all the more shocking.

Mvandaba’s sentiments echo those of many within the department, who are struggling to come to terms with the loss of a dedicated colleague and friend.
