Tragedy Strikes Fish Hoek Beach as 15-Year-Old Teenager Drowns

A sad incident happened at Fish Hoek Beach in Cape Town on Saturday.

A 15-year-old boy lost his life after jumping into the water from the rocks.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) confirmed the news, stating that the boy was declared dead at the scene.

Lifeguards from the City of Cape Town and Fish Hoek Lifesaving tried their best to save him, performing CPR, but unfortunately, they couldn’t revive him.

What happened at Fish Hoek Beach

According to NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon, rescue crews were alerted to the incident at 4.55 pm.

Lifeguards from both the City of Cape Town (CoCT) and Fish Hoek Lifesaving were engaged in a desperate attempt to save the young boy’s life, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the scene.

“The teenager had reportedly dived off rocks into the surf before being rescued from the water by the lifeguards,” Lambinon explained.

Despite the swift response and collaborative efforts of lifeguards, paramedics, and emergency services, the tragedy unfolded, leading to the declaration of the teenager’s death at the scene.

“The South African Police Services (SAPS), Western Cape Government Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Cape Medical Response (CMR), and CoCT Law Enforcement responded,” Lambinon added.

The NSRI Simonstown crew was also placed on alert.

Paramedics joined forces with lifeguards, dedicating extensive efforts to perform CPR on the teenager.

Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain, and the young life was declared deceased.

The body was then handed over to the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Condolences were extended to the grieving family, as the community grappled with the sudden loss of a promising young life.

The police have initiated an inquest docket to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
