Traffic officer found in a pool of blood after the following happened
An off-duty traffic officer, who has since been identified by his family as Silvester Samkelo Nkosi (34), was fatally shot and robbed of his white VW Golf 7 and service pistol. The horrific incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening, January 23, 2023, at the Water Reservoir (2010 Soccer Ball) in Steiltes, Nelspruit.

According to the report, the Nelspruit police received a complaint of a shooting at the said site at around 7:30 pm on that fateful night, and upon arrival, the police found the provincial traffic officer in a pool of blood. Medical personnel who were at the scene, unfortunately, certified him dead, and police are investigating a case of murder with additional charges of robbery and carjacking.
No one has been arrested yet, but the initial investigation indicates that the officer was traveling with a female when two armed suspects assaulted them. The female was reportedly unharmed in the incident and went to the nearest gas station for help, while the suspects fled with the victim’s car and service weapon.

Police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects or the vehicle to contact the Detective Branch Commander in Nelspruit SAPS, Detective Colonel Donald Mkhaliphi on 079 230 3126 or Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Alternatively, the public can also send information via MYSAPSAPP. All information received will be kept confidential and callers may choose to remain anonymous.
A manhunt has since been launched for the suspects and a team of investigative experts has been assembled under the leadership of the SAPS provincial commissioner in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, who strongly condemned the incident and vowed that the perpetrators will not rest until they are all locked up. “It is well known that in this province we do not bat an eye when a crime is committed. In this case, there will be no difference and they better turn themselves into the authorities before we catch them,” the general said.
