Three shot and killed,one student critical in Joburg shooting

On Thursday afternoon, two people were shot and killed while sitting in their vehicle in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

The incident,was initially thought to be linked to taxi-related disputes, however two students also came under fire by stray bullets while on a bus that was passing by the shooting scene.

One student was killed instantly while another was rushed to hospital and remains in critical condition.

Authorities are responding to the situation, with police officers deployed to manage two separate crime scenes.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the motive of the shooting is unknown.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that unknown gunmen opened fire at a BMW sedan. Two male occupants were shot, and two [students] were caught in the gunfire.”
