Reports indicate that on 30 May 2024, Sgt. Msutu was involved in a car accident with his private vehicle and was taken to a private hospital for treatment. Later that night, a colleague picked him up and brought him to his police barracks at SAPS Cambridge.

On 31 May 2024, around 9:30 AM, a fire broke out in his room, but he was not present at the time. Consequently, a missing person’s report was filed that same day.

On Saturday, 01 June 2024, around 2:00 PM, a fisherman discovered Sgt. Msutu’s body.

An inquest docket has been opened, pending the results of the post-mortem report.
