Pensioner aged 80 who was caught raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter pleads insanity

An 80-year-old pensioner accused of raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter on multiple occasions is attempting to reverse his earlier plea of guilt, citing memory issues.

His attorney, Charles Tlagae, informed the court that the man’s hearing and sight impairments, coupled with forgetfulness, rendered him unfit to plead during the trial’s inception.

“We believe the evaluation confirms our client’s incapacity to plead. The report highlights his left ear and eye problems, along with severe forgetfulness,” Tlagae asserted, seeking to reevaluate the man’s mental state.

Concerns of old age dementia were raised as Tlagae noticed inconsistencies in the man’s responses and his disorientation in court proceedings.

The prosecutor, Ambrosia Keipheditse, disclosed that the accused is scheduled for reassessment on June 27, 2024, following his initial psychiatric evaluation in April 2023.

Despite the impending reevaluation, Tlagae remains steadfast in his belief that the outcome will align with past assessments.

The court documents detail harrowing accounts of the alleged assaults, spanning from July 2019 to October 2020.

The accused reportedly perpetrated these heinous acts in secrecy, cautioning the victim against disclosing the abuse to her mother.

In a chilling incident, the old man’s brother and nephew are said to have arrived, knocked at the door and when no one answered they peeped through the window and saw him raping the child.

It is said that when he finally opened the door, the old man denied knowing the whereabouts of the girl when they asked him, nonetheless, the young girl allegedly came out of the house covering her naked body with a blanket.

The relatives are said to have resorted to informing the girl’s sister who then reported the matter to the police.
