Motsoaledi left red faced after Zimbabwean landed top government position using fake residency permit

Zimbabwean national Kudakwashe Mpofu has found himself embroiled in a legal battle with the South African Department of Home Affairs after managing to secure employment with a fake residency permit.

Mpofu has been fighting against deportation back to Zimbabwe, with his case raising questions about the authenticity of his residence documents.

Mpofu took legal action by filing papers in the high court of Pretoria in an attempt to compel Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and Director-General Tommy Makhode to validate his residency documents.

Last year, Mpofu successfully obtained a court interim order that prevented his deportation, as Motsoaledi and Makhode failed to oppose his application.

In response to the situation, Minister Motsoaledi revealed that an investigation is underway to determine how Mpofu acquired the control number on his documents.

He stated, “According to our records, Mr. Kudakwashe Mpofu’s permanent residence permit is fraudulent, it was not issued by the Department of Home Affairs.”

Motsoaledi expressed concern over the matter, emphasizing that Mpofu’s employment as Chief Financial Officer at the North West Department of Economic Development raises serious issues, especially given the handling of public funds.

The Department of Home Affairs is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Mpofu’s fake residence permit and the discrepancies in the control number on his documents.

Mpofu is scheduled to appear in court on May 9 to contest his deportation.
