Man arrested in Mossel Bay for possession of R70,000 worth of drugs
A 35-year-old man was arrested after police found drugs worth around R70,000 in his possession on the R328 near Mossel Bay in the Western Cape.
South African Police Service (SAPS) Sergeant Christopher Spies reported that on Monday, October 28, around 2pm, officers were patrolling near Sonskyn Vallei when they spotted a man acting suspiciously.
“They approached the suspect and conducted a search during which they found 999 mandrax tablets and 61 grams of tik in his possession,” Spies said.
The police seized the drugs and arrested the man on charges of drug dealing.
He is currently in custody and is set to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 29.
In another incident, a foreign national was arrested in Cape Town for possessing drugs worth R1 million.
This 42-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday morning, October 29.
Western Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said that officers from the Anti-Economical and Extortion Task Team are dedicated to fighting the province’s illegal drug trade.
“A multi-disciplinary team responded to intelligence-driven information and approached a residence in Parow. Upon entering the house, a search ensued which resulted in the recovery of a consignment of drugs with an estimated street value of R1 million,” Swartbooi stated.
