KZN man kills his entire family over witchcraft

A tragic case unfolded in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court as 54-year-old Elias Delisani Mkhize pleaded guilty to the brutal murder of his mother and sister.

Mkhize, represented by attorney Mzothandayo Tengwa, admitted to shooting his mother Mathithi Mkhize and sister Celiwe Mkhize on December 20, 2023, in the Luzizi area of Mid-Illovo in the district of uMgungundlovu.

The gruesome details of the crime continued as Mkhize confessed to decapitating both women and disposing of their heads in a toilet pit system.

In a chilling account before Judge Phumelele Shoba, Mkhize claimed that he believed his mother and sister were attempting to bewitch him.

He described seeing them leave his home in the early hours of the morning wearing black clothes, which fueled his suspicions.

“I admit that I suspected that they were at my place to bewitch me and I took my unlicensed firearm and followed them,” Mkhize stated.

His actions escalated when he found them at his parental home nearby and proceeded to shoot them before mutilating their bodies.

Mkhize’s brother, Bongani Mkhize, expressed profound shock and disbelief at the loss of their mother and sister, emphasizing the devastating impact this tragedy has had on their family.

“The shock of hearing my mother and sister were both dead… up until today I still cannot believe this incident,” he lamented.

With their mother being the head of the household following their father’s passing, Bongani questioned how a son could commit such heinous acts against his own family.
