“I was hired to kill you” – Vusi tells Home Affairs minister Motsoaledi who has made life tough for foreigners

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has found himself at the center of a shocking extortion plot, with an anonymous caller demanding a hefty sum to call off an alleged assassination attempt.

The Sunday World reports that the caller, who identified himself only as Vusi, contacted Motsoaledi multiple times in December 2022, claiming he had been hired to kill the minister for R60,000.

According to an anonymous police source, “The alleged would-be assassin called Motsoaledi and informed him that they had hired him to assassinate him. He claimed that those who wanted the minister dead had promised to pay him R60 000. He told Motsoaledi that these people have paid him R40 000 deposit to carry out the hit.”

Instead of succumbing to the demands, Motsoaledi took immediate action, reporting the incident to the Brooklyn police station in Pretoria.

A case of extortion was opened, and the Hawks’ serious economic offences unit is currently investigating the matter.

The police statement, seen by Sunday World, confirms the details of the alleged plot.

“The suspect alleged that he was hired to kill the minister, and he has already been paid R40,000.00 and the balance of R20,000 will be paid when the mission is completed,” it reads.

The caller reportedly offered to eliminate those who had hired him to kill the minister in exchange for R80,000.

“He wants the minister to pay him R80,000 to eliminate the people who hired him to kill the minister,” the statement continues.

Hawks spokesperson Thandi Mbambo confirmed the ongoing investigation, stating that no arrests have been made yet.
