Incidents relate to the Grade 1 pupil’s poisoning
Last year, learners fell ill in the Northern Cape after consuming chips bought on their way to school.
Additionally, two Grade 1 learners tragically died after eating snacks purchased at a West Rand taxi rank, with two other girls rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Another Grade 3 learner in Roodepoort lost her life after consuming biscuits allegedly bought from a local spaza shop.
The parliamentary portfolio committee on Basic Education has previously urged parents to be vigilant about the snacks their children consume and recommended purchasing from reputable stores to ensure product safety.
Authorities are expected to address compliance issues to safeguard the well-being of young consumers.
