From dusty Eastern Cape field to Manchester, dream comes true for teenage footballer

Despite training on an unmarked and stony practice pitch, Onke Mzozoyana, a teenage soccer star from Gelvandale High School, has been selected to compete in the prestigious Manchester Easter International Cup.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to his determination and talent as a player.

Mzozoyana’s love for soccer began at the age of nine, and from that moment, he knew that he wanted to become a professional footballer.

Now, at 17 years old, he is on the verge of turning his dreams into reality as he prepares to travel to the UK to compete in the Cup from March 29 to 31.

This tournament presents an incredible opportunity for him to showcase his skills and catch the attention of scouts from some of Europe’s top clubs.

As a central defensive midfielder for ProSkills Soccer Academy, Mzozoyana has been honing his skills and impressing coaches and scouts alike.

His selection for the Stinging Bees, a soccer team in New Brighton, further highlights his talent and potential.

Playing in the Hollywoodbets Men’s regional league, he has proven himself as a player to watch.

Despite the exciting opportunity ahead, Mzozoyana faces the challenge of raising funds for the trip.

The required amount is R40,000, and he is actively seeking support from the community and sponsors to make his journey possible.

His determination and passion for the sport are evident, and it is inspiring to see him pushing forward despite the financial obstacles.

Mzozoyana’s coach, Zolani Swelindawo, recognizes his potential and is proud to support his journey.

The ProSkills Soccer Academy, established in 1998, was created to help support the sporting ambitions of the youth in Missionvale.

It is through initiatives like this that young athletes like Mzozoyana are given the opportunity to thrive and pursue their dreams.

With his sights set on playing in the English Premier League in Europe, Mzozoyana is a shining example of determination and perseverance.
