Former Sundowns star is now a pastor at Shepherd Bushiri’s church

Former South African international and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Tiyani Mabunda has traded the roar of football stadiums for the ‘praise and worship’ vibes of church.

A recent video circulating online depicts the 36-year-old leading a service at Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s church in Pretoria, demonstrating his embrace of his new calling as a pastor.

Mabunda’s pursuit of a spiritual life began during a challenging period in his football career.

Amidst dwindling playing time, he and his fiancee sought guidance at Bushiri’s church, where prayer and support reignited his passion and confidence on the field.

Despite his subsequent success on the football pitch, Mabunda has faced criticism for his public expressions of gratitude to Bushiri during match press conferences.

Undeterred, he has attributed his accomplishments to the prayers and blessings received under Bushiri’s leadership.

In an interview with Sowetan Live, Mabunda stated: “I have come to know and understand God under his leadership. It was through his teachings, prayers, and well wishes for me that I was able to get to this level in life.”

Mabunda’s conversion and pastoral calling have been met with both praise and disbelief.

Nonetheless, his journey serves as a testament to the nature of human experience and the search for fulfillment beyond traditional pursuits.
