It was established in 2020 that the man called ‘Shaka Zulu’ was released by Cape Town City early since his contract was set to expire at the end of the 2019/20 season.

The reason behind the early departure of the burly striker from the Mother City club had asked to head back home to KwaZulu-Natal to attend to personal issues, forcing them to amicably part ways.

Cape Town City and Mthembu reached a settlement agreement about the early termination.
