Floyd Shivambu appointed MK Party’s 5th Secretary-General in 11 Months
Floyd Shivambu has been appointed as the MK Party’s fifth secretary-general since the party’s launch in December 2023. He replaces Dr Sifiso Maseko, who resigned on 29 October following the conclusion of his disciplinary hearing at the Gauteng Department of Health, after being suspended in 2022.
Maseko was the MK Party’s fourth secretary-general, having served in the role for four months. He followed Arthur Zwane, Sihle Ngubane, and Thanduxolo “Gorbachev” Dyodo in the position. Maseko resigned after his disciplinary matter was resolved.
In a statement, Magasela Mzobe, the MK Party’s head of presidency, confirmed that party leader Jacob Zuma, in consultation with national officials, had appointed Shivambu as secretary-general, effective immediately.
“Floyd Shivambu will assume all the functions and tasks as secretary-general as prescribed by the constitution of the MK Party,” Mzobe said. “The president and national officials will, in line with the constitution, announce the necessary changes regarding the vacant role of national organiser. The president expresses full confidence in secretary-general Shivambu and the entire leadership of the MK Party.”
After resigning from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in August, Shivambu was appointed as the MK Party’s national organiser. His responsibilities included building branches and regions across the country, overseeing research and policy development, and appointing MK Party members to parliament and provincial legislatures.
