Itumeleng Khune Replaced by DJ Cleo’s Son
Kaizer Chiefs’ goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune faces further setbacks as his name is removed from the Carling Knockout All-Star team.
The exclusion means Khune will not be part of the January 6 match between Beer Cup champions Stellenbosch and the Carling Knockout All-Star XI, a team selected by fans.
According to FARPost, Chiefs informed the Premier Soccer League about Khune’s unavailability for the upcoming match at Peter Mokaba Stadium, citing disciplinary reasons.
This development follows Khune’s suspension by Amakhosi for reporting to work under the influence.
Replacing Khune on the Carling Knockout All-Star team is Zoey Monyepao, the son of DJ Cleo and a member of Orlando Pirates reserves.
While this decision might seem harsh to some of Khune’s loyal followers, Chiefs appear to be asserting discipline at Naturena, addressing player indiscipline, which has been linked to the team’s recent underperformance and trophy drought.
What’s next for Itumeleng Khune
The exact duration of Khune’s suspension and the date of his return to the first team are yet to be confirmed by Chiefs.
Speculation suggests he may return when league action resumes in February, following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The decision underscores Chiefs commitment to instilling discipline and maintaining a focused and competitive team.
