Chiefs knocked out of MTN8

Kaizer Chiefs’ game against AmaZulu ended in a draw, which resulted in their elimination from the MTN8.

After playing AmaZulu FC to a scoreless draw in the second leg of their semi-final match on Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs were disqualified from the MTN8.

WHAT HAPPENED TO CHIEFS?

As a result of Usuthu’s defense stopping Amakhosi’s onslaught, the game finished in a 0-0 draw. AmaZulu advanced to the final by winning the match based on away goals because the first leg of the match finished in a 1-1 draw in Johannesburg three weeks prior.

EYES ON

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana returned from an injury that prevented him from playing against TS Galaxy on Wednesday. Bimenyimana is a Burundian international.

The tall center forward, who has six goals this season to lead the Chiefs in scoring, appeared off-color while directing Amakhosi’s uninspired attack.

Bimenyimana was substituted at the hour mark because he was limping. It appears that the 24-year-old was forced to return from injury quickly, as SABC Sport stated that he had been sidelined for four weeks.

THE BIGGER PICTURE FOR CHIEFS

Following the Chiefs’ elimination from the MTN8, their chances of ending their seven-year trophy drought began to fade away.

Now, the Soweto giants will be aiming to win the PSL and Nedbank Cup.

Amakhosi will now compete against their bitter rival Orlando Pirates on Saturday at the FNB Stadium, the venue of the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The two Soweto giants will then play one another on November 15 at the same location in the Carling Black Labe Cup semifinal.
