The attack occurred off Warwick Avenue in the heart of Durban’s central business district at approximately 8 am, sending shockwaves through the community.

Garrith Jamieson, a representative from ALS Paramedics, detailed the emergency response to the scene, stating:

“ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene to find SAPS (SA Police Service) already on the scene.”

The two security officers, discovered with multiple gunshot wounds, were in critical condition, prompting immediate action from Advanced Life Support Paramedics.

The paramedics worked diligently to stabilize the injured guards before transporting them urgently to a nearby Durban hospital for essential care.

Tragically, one man, believed to be a suspect in the heist, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The events leading up to the incident remain unknown, and investigations are underway by the South African Police Service (SAPS) to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the heist.

DRK Tactical, another private security company present at the scene, shared further details, asserting that a group of armed individuals allegedly robbed the cash van after it had collected money from a local business.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.

Cait Hagerman, a spokesperson for DRK Tactical, provided insight into the unfolding events, underscoring the severity of the situation.

It is alleged the suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
