A heartbreaking update was issued by regarding an incident which took place near a mall in Waimalu, Hawaii . It was about Theresa Cachuela, known as “Bunny Bontiti” to her Instagram followers, who was fatally shot by her husband, Jason Cachuela, just two days after a restraining order was granted against him.

The tragedy unfolded in a parking lot near Pearlridge Center in Honolulu, with the presence of a child during the shooting.

A report by NBC News highlighted that Theresa Cachuela, a mother of three, was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, Jason Cachuela, was later found dead in an apparent suicide near a Waipahu residence, approximately five miles away from the mall.

The police recovered a gun at the scene where Jason was found. 

The incident was not a random act, as both the victim and the suspect were married. Court documents revealed that Bunny Bontiti had been granted a temporary restraining order against her husband due to alleged threats of self-harm and violent behavior.

The couple, who had been together for nearly 11 years, faced escalating tension, leading Theresa to seek legal protection.

“Bunny” had been threatened by her killer 

According to the petition filed on December 8, Jason Cachuela had threatened suicide in front of Bunny and her children on December 6. The following days saw disturbing incidents, including an attempt to break into her garage and threats of self-harm.

Despite the restraining order granted on December 20, the tragic shooting occurred on December 26, raising questions about how Jason was in possession of a firearm.

Bunny’s mother, Lucita Ani-Nihoa, revealed that her daughter had sought help from domestic violence support agencies, indicating a history of abuse in the relationship.

Ani-Nihoa shared the heartbreaking detail that Theresa’s 8-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting, leaving her traumatized.

An appeal that has been made by Bunny’s family

The family has initiated an online fundraiser to cover funeral costs and support Theresa’s children during this difficult time.
