Body believe to be missing Zimbabwean businessman found

In KwaZulu-Natal, authorities have found a body believed to be that of Evans Katumba, the missing Zimbabwean businessman who was abducted in Durban last month.

Katumba’s abduction, was carried out by armed men wielding AK47s on 22 March 2024.

It was reported that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of R2.5 million for Katumba’s release. Despite the family raising R1.5 million and reportedly handing it over, Katumba was not freed, raising further concerns among his loved ones.

The somber discovery occurred on Thursday morning in Hammersdale, west of Durban, where authorities recovered the body of a man with two gunshot wounds.

Sources close to the family revealed that the body was found days ago.

Due to the advanced decomposition, immediate confirmation of the body’s identity was not possible. The family is awaiting DNA confirmation to establish whether the deceased is indeed Evans Katumba. However, there are compelling signs pointing to the recovered body being Katumba.

A family member mentioned that the clothing found on the deceased matched what Katumba was wearing at the time of his abduction, further strengthening the likelihood of the unfortunate possibility.
