54-Year-Old Arrested for Double Murder in KZN

A 54-year-old man has been taken into custody following a double murder in the Dwengu region of Mid-Illovo, located south of Durban.

The victims, a 83-year-old woman and her 39-year-old daughter, were tragically shot, decapitated, and disposed of in a pit latrine on Wednesday.

Shortly after the incident, Magma investigations and security head, Shaheen Suleiman, reported that the police were alerted and swiftly responded to the scene.

As authorities approached the suspect, he reportedly fired at them, escaping into the nearby bush.

Despite concerted efforts by law enforcement and security personnel, the fugitive remained elusive. Subsequently, information regarding the suspect’s location was received via letter.

“An operational team composed of Magma security and Mid-Illovo police members was assembled and proceeded to the suspect’s homestead.

Upon arrival they arrested the suspect and seized an unlicensed 9mm pistol,” Suleiman said as quoted by TimesLive.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Const Thenjiswa Ngcobo verified the incident, stating that the man was apprehended in the Esigodini area. The motive behind the gruesome killing remains unknown.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Richmond magistrate’s court on Friday.

With the motive still unknown, the upcoming court appearance promises to shed light on the disturbing circumstances surrounding the murders, offering closure to a grieving community and revealing the extent of this gruesome act.
