Drunk driver causes serious accident
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a serious collision occurred on the M4 near the Umhlanga Rocks offramp in KwaZulu-Natal, leaving several people injured. The incident took place when a blue Renault Triber, allegedly driven by an drunk individual, was traveling against the flow of traffic down the offramp.
At approximately 02:11, members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived at the scene and found that Emergency Services were already in attendance. According to witnesses, the Renault Triber was driving contraflow when it collided head-on with a red VW Polo.
As a result of the crash, the driver of the Renault Triber and four occupants of the VW Polo sustained injuries. Emergency personnel on the scene provided immediate medical assistance to the injured parties. The severity of their injuries has not yet been confirmed, and they were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
This incident has raised concerns about road safety, particularly with regards to driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the level of intoxication of the driver and how the vehicle came to be traveling contraflow.
The M4 was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to clear the scene and investigate the accident, causing minor traffic delays. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to prevent such dangerous incidents from occurring.
