A Mozambican national also arrested for the murder of Ditebogo Phalane

Two men from Soshanguve briefly appeared at the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court. The suspects, a 29-year-old Mozambican national and a 30-year-old South African, are each facing two counts of possession of prohibited firearms and possession of ammunition.

They are also believed to be connected to the murder of 5-year-old Ditebogo Phalane.

The arrests took place on 20 May following an intelligence-based investigation.

One of the accused disclosed that he has a pending case at the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court, scheduled for 28 June 2024, where he faces charges of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, attempted murder, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Ditebogo was shot when he and his father came under attack from a group of men outside their home in Block UU. Phalane Jr died later in the hospital.

The little Phalane had rushed outside to meet and greet his father, who had just arrived home, when the attack took place. He was laid to rest on 17 May 2024.
