Man rapes and murders his biological mother

A man accused of raping and killing his own biological mother was handed a double life sentence by the Northern Cape High Court.

Justice prevailed on Friday, 04 November 2022 when Paul Conradie, aged 39, learned his fate regarding the murder and rape of his biological mother.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, has welcomed the unanimous decision taken by the Department of Justice and the National Prosecuting Authority to remove the accused from society. This was done by handing down a double life term imprisonment sentence for the rape and murder of his own mother.

“Justice has been served, the country is currently facing a scourge of gender-based violence. I am confident that the sentence will deter criminals committing crimes against women and children”, says General Otola.

The deceased was found laying on the ground with her dress pulled up to her waist, according to witnesses who testified in court. Conradie, her biological son, was found next to her.

The man was arrested on Sunday, 03 February 2020, after the police were informed about the incident.

It appears that the incident happened after Conradie and his mother drank homemade ginger beer.

According to Dr. Lemaine Fouchè’s testimony, the mother was penetrated 24 hours before she passed away. Dr. Fouchè performed the autopsy on the deceased.

It is evident that Conradie is a law-breaking citizen, as one can see from his previous convictions. He was found guilty of housebreaking in 2012. He did not serve out the entirety of his sentence because he committed the same crime again in 2015, for which he received a new sentence.

The worst and most awful aspect of this crime is that it may have been prevented if the accused had received considerably heavier punishment for his prior crimes.
