Zwane blames Ashley Du Preez for poor performance
When Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana entered the game in the second half, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane claims Ashley Du Preez did not grasp what the coaches were asking him to do.
The AmaKhosi dropped points for the fifth time in seven matches this season after drawing 1-1 with Marumo Gallants on Sunday afternoon.
They were down a goal in the first half, and Zwane indicated how he planned to adjust things in the second half.
After the game, Zwane told SuperSport that “we had to adjust the formation, we had to push everyone forward, especially create width and have depth with Caleb now upfront.”
“Although we told Ashley [Du Preez] not to follow Caleb when he went, we believed that if he stayed in the pockets, he would be able to grab those balls free. For this reason, Sebelo [Radebe] had to be included because he is familiar with those pockets.
“Additionally, he wanted to carry the ball because it is uncharacteristic of him to simply kick the ball forward when he doesn’t carry it.
“But as I’ve been saying, it’s still a work in progress; we know we’ll get it right, but I’m certainly sad because, despite our poor performance tonight, we deserved better.
Although we didn’t have many clear-cut opportunities, we still had a number of options inside the box. We only
needed to choose one and score, just as we did when we scored from a dead-ball situation.
