PSL injury crisis: List of players out for 2024

Several important players in the PSL have been seriously injured and might not play again until next year.

Edson Castillo
The Venezuelan player is expected to be out for four to five months due to a fractured fibula. He got injured last Saturday during a match against SuperSport United in Polokwane. Castillo is scheduled for surgery and had been performing well after a tough start to the season.

Themba Zwane
The experienced midfielder will be missed by both Mamelodi Sundowns and the national team, Bafana Bafana. Zwane might be out for up to six months after surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. He got hurt while playing for his country against Congo-Brazzaville earlier this month, just when he was in great form.

Olisa Ndah
The Nigerian defender was injured in a league match against Polokwane City on September 24. He suffered a tibia fracture, and Pirates confirmed he is “ruled out for the rest of the year.” This is a significant loss for both his club and country.

Carlinhos
The Angolan player was injured in August before making his official debut for Cape Town City. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament during training and had surgery. City announced that Carlinhos would not play in the first half of this season.

Good News for Some: Bradley Grobler & Grant Margeman
Grobler tore his ACL during SuperSport United’s MTN8 quarter-final against Orlando Pirates.

He had surgery and was initially ruled out for the rest of 2024, but he has recovered sooner than expected.

The 36-year-old has started training with the team, and coach Gavin Hunt believes he could be back playing soon, possibly from the bench.

Another SuperSport player, Grant Margeman, also suffered an ACL tear and was expected to be out for the year, but he has started training as well.
