Watch – Orlando Pirates star Makhaula’s hilarious goal celebration
Makhehlene Makhaula’s triumphant return to the scoresheet after years of drought in Orlando Pirates’ 4-2 Nedbank Cup quarterfinal win over AmaZulu on Saturday was a moment to remember.
The 34-year-old midfielder’s goal in the 82nd minute not only sealed the victory for Pirates but also marked a personal milestone that he celebrated in a memorable fashion.
Makhaula’s excitement was palpable as he sprinted the entire length of the pitch, finally leaping into the arms of Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine in a moment of pure joy and disbelief.
The midfielder’s burst of energy was so intense that he had to be substituted just five minutes later due to exhaustion.
Reflecting on his unexpected goal, Makhaula shared, “Before the game, Chaine came to me and made a bold prediction that I would score. At the time, I didn’t take it seriously, considering I hadn’t scored in over eight years. So, when the moment arrived, the first person that came to mind was Chaine. I sprinted so hard but only for my body to betray me.”
Having only scored three goals in his entire career prior to this match, Makhaula’s exuberance and elation at breaking his goal drought were completely understandable.
