Thandani Ntshumayelo released on bail following assault charges
Former Bafana Bafana star Thandani Ntshumayelo appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of domestic violence and was subsequently released on R1,000 bail.
The retired footballer, who played for Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Baroka, and Swallows during his career, faces accusations of assaulting his girlfriend under the Domestic Violence Act.
The alleged incident involved Thandani Ntshumayelo striking his girlfriend with an open hand and hitting her against a wall.
The case has been postponed until April 4 for further investigation.
Ntshumayelo’s girlfriend, Itumeleng Alice, declined to comment after the court appearance.
This isn’t the first time Ntshumayelo has faced challenges in his career.
In 2016, he received a four-year ban for testing positive for drugs, causing Orlando Pirates to terminate his contract.
However, the ban was later revoked following a successful appeal.
In June 2023, at the age of 33, Ntshumayelo officially announced his retirement from professional football.
He expressed gratitude for achieving his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
In a separate incident involving another former Orlando Pirates player, Thamsanqa Gabuza, an arrest warrant has been issued for his non-attendance in court regarding a charge of intentionally causing damage to property.
Gabuza, who currently plays for Premier Soccer League club TS Galaxy, is scheduled to return to court on February 15 to provide an explanation for his absence.
The 36-year-old is out on R3,000 bail.
