Supportive friend dies after being given the host’s plate of food
A man from Ximungwe tragically lost his life after allegedly consuming a wrong plate of food during Dikoma cultural graduation ceremonies. The victim had traveled to Alexandria in Bushbuckridge to support a colleague, whose two sons were graduating.
The incident occurred when the host, the father of the two graduating boys, was served a plate of food. However, due to a shortage of food, he decided to give his plate to his visiting friend, reasoning that it wouldn’t matter if he, as the host, didn’t eat.
Shortly after consuming the meal, the visitor began complaining of severe stomach pains. Despite efforts to help, he sadly passed away.
The aunt who served the food is now being questioned. She claims she doesn’t recall who handed her the plate because of the chaotic atmosphere in the kitchen, where many people were helping serve food.
The incident has led to tension between the two families, with the deceased’s family seeking answers from the host family. Dikoma, a highly celebrated cultural event in the region, has been overshadowed by this tragic event.
