It ends in tears for undocumented foreign nationals who illegally crossed into SA
The South African Police Service (SAPS) border police made a significant breakthrough on Sunday as they detained 42 illegal immigrants and confiscated a substantial amount of illicit cigarettes in separate operations.
The Citizen reports that the incidents occurred at the Beitbridge port of entry outside Musina in Vhembe, Limpopo, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in curbing illegal activities at the borders.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the Limpopo SAPS provincial spokesperson, provided details of the operations, stating that the foreign nationals were apprehended for contravening the Immigration Act.
The suspects have been processed by immigration officers from the Department of Home Affairs for immediate deportation back to their countries of origin.
Speaking about the operations, Ledwaba mentioned another significant find by the border police team.
“In addition, the team had a separate incident on Sunday, 28 April 2024, when, during their operation, they confiscated a homemade wooden step ladder at Beitbridge that is believed to be used to cross the Limpopo River between Zimbabwe and South Africa,” he explained.
