5 Suspects killed, 6 others arrested following shootout in foiled CIT robbery in Witbank

On the morning on the 3 April 2024, an attempted cash in-transit robbery occurred in the Mpumalanga province, Emalahleni whereby the cash van was rammed but the suspects were unsuccessful during their attempt.
A specialised team gathered information and intelligence regarding the suspects whereabouts. The team consisted of SAPS Counter Intelligence Investigations, Head Offices SAPS Gauteng TRT, SAPS Anti-Gang Unit GP, SAPS Middelburg flying squad,CAP specialised operations, SAPS DPC Gauteng Taskteam,Fidelity specialised services and T racker connect.
According to reports, a residential premise was identified to be the “safe house” that the suspects were utilizing.
As the team were on route to the premise, three (3) vehicles were spotted leaving from the “safe house” premise, toyota quantum mini bus, nissan juke suv & hyundai h1 minibus.
The members spotted the suspect vehicles. As the team attempted to stop the toyota mini bus, the suspects opened fired on the members who then returbed fire.
Five (5) suspects were killed, six (6) suspects were arrested including
three who were wounded. Unlicensed firearms and ammunition were found.
The nissan juke and hyundai h1 were stopped as well. The suspects were contained and arrested.
During the breach at the safe house, two (2) unlicensed AK47 rifles and ammunition was recovered.
Multiple motor vehicles were found parked inside the yard, Mazda Cx5 SUV, Haval SUV sought as per rabie ridge case, Audi Q5 sought as per yeoville case, Mazda Cx5 SUV sought as per jeppe case.
All necessary role players were contacted and the scenes were processed accordingly.
Further investigation is underway to link the suspects to other crimes.
