Lindiwe Sisulu is a step closer to joining Jacob Zuma’s MK party – Report

Former President Jacob Zuma’s umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party has reportedly set its sights on Lindiwe Sisulu, a member of the ANC’s esteemed royal bloodline, as part of its strategy to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming general election slated for May 29.

The unfolding developments were unveiled following a visit by a contingent of MK Party members to Sisulu’s residence in Joburg over the weekend.

Sporting party regalia bearing the slogan “Vote MK 2024,” the MK Party members engaged in discussions with Sisulu during their visit before departing, leaving her to interact with other individuals outside her home.

Despite the speculation surrounding the purpose of the visit, Sisulu downplayed the gathering as a “courtesy visit” from former colleagues who expressed their intention to defect from the ANC to join the burgeoning party.

Sisulu’s advisor, Mphumzi Mdekazi, clarified that the visit was to inform her of the members’ decision to leave the ANC and align with the MK Party, echoing a similar scenario during the formation of Cope.

Acknowledging the grassroots support she has received from ANC’s MK wing, Sisulu expressed understanding towards members departing from the party, emphasizing her deep-rooted connection to the ANC.

As the daughter of revered ANC stalwarts Walter and Albertina Sisulu, Sisulu holds a distinguished position within the party’s historical lineage.

“She emphasised that she did not have the luxury to dump the ANC. She never joined the ANC. She says, ‘I was born in the ANC, so I cannot leave. The ANC is my home,” he said.

Additionally, the MK Party’s visit aimed to notify Sisulu of an upcoming commemorative event honoring the founding fathers of the ANC’s former MK military wing, including Govan Mbeki, Walter Sisulu, and Nelson Mandela.
