Shosholoza Meyl is back in time for Dezemba Boss!
The Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) confirmed on Friday the return of the Shosholoza Meyl train service from Johannesburg to Durban and Cape Town. This is right in time for the festive season and is great for all holidayers.
This confirmation was made after two years of the train service being paused. The services resume following a suspension in 2021 due to network and operational infrastructure difficulties. According to Prasa, the recommencement of Johannesburg to Durban and Cape Town services marks an additional milestone in the revival of long-distance passenger rail services.

“Resuming the long-distance passenger rail services is our commitment to offering an alternative mode of transportation, connecting people with families and friends, and offering holiday-makers an affordable and convenient means to reach their destinations,“ Prasa said. The agency stated that the services resumed due to the deterioration of the economy as consumers struggle with the costs of long-distance travel.

Prasa reported that it is working on restoring long-distance passenger rail services, with Shosholoza Meyl currently transporting people from Johannesburg to Queenstown and Musina. All these new developments and additional benefits have left the general public conflicted and others are enthusiastic about the convenience. Prices of the travelling options range from R170 to R690.
