Two Nigerian men arrested with R250 000 worth of drugs

On Thursday, 21 March 2024, two Nigerian foreign nationals were arrested at Hartbeespoortdam and are scheduled to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 25, 2024.

The arrest was executed by a collaborative effort involving the Head Office Organised Crime: Narcotics, and Limpopo Crime Intelligence units.

The investigation leading to the arrest began in Limpopo in September last year, focusing on the suspects’ vehicle, a white Hyundai, which was tracked along the N1 between Limpopo and Gauteng Provinces.

The surveillance team followed the vehicle, occupied by two individuals, along the N1 road and subsequently onto the N4, eventually intercepting it at Hartbeespoortdam for a thorough search.

During the search, authorities discovered 10 balls containing 100 pieces of nyaope within the car.

Subsequently, the driver took the team to a location at Scheerpoort outside Hartbeespoortdam, where an additional search revealed 39 balls containing nyaope and 200 grams of heroin.

The combined estimated street value of the seized drugs amounted to R250,000.00. Additionally, the vehicle was confiscated, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

One of the suspects is expected to face charges related to contravention of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No. 13 of 2002).

North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, commended all members involved in the operation from both Limpopo and Head Office for their collaborative efforts. He emphasized the importance of such dedicated commitment in combating drug trafficking, underscoring the message that with continued vigilance, more drug traffickers will be brought to justice, contributing to safer communities.
