Zungu says he did not fail and reveals reason for his return
Midfielder Bongani Zungu of Mamelodi Sundowns has at last addressed his primary motivation for returning to Sundowns
The 30-year-old was previously associated with numerous elite DStv Premiership teams, but he has now explained why he chose to rejoin Sundowns. Ben10 says that his decision was made simple by the club’s performance.
“Before re-signing with Sundowns, I thought about what I wanted to achieve, and the CAF Champions League is something that influenced my decision,” Zungu told Sundowns Magazine.
“The fact that Sundowns is amongst the best football clubs in Africa competing to win the trophy gives me hope that I will achieve my goal.”

Later, the former Rangers FC midfielder added that coach Rulani Mokwena had actually paid him a visit while in France. He also described Manqoba Mngqithi’s position in his football.
“Coach Rulani came to visit me overseas and he had a chat with one of the coaches at Amiens to see how we were training, he has really helped me grow on and off the field. He added
“Coach Manqoba is a father figure to me and continuously gives me valuable advice.”
According to idiskitimes Zungu, rejoined Sundowns in the off-season after six seasons in Europe where he turned out for Vitória Guimarães, Amiens and Rangers.
However, after the expiry of his contract with the French club, he opted for a return to South Africa which has been met with a mixed reception.

“Nothing went wrong, I made a decision with my family to come back to South Africa, there were personal reasons why I had to come back,” Zungu explained.
“I don’t have regrets about my career, like anything in life, you have ups and downs, that’s what happened to me. I’m not the last person to face similar situations.
“But me coming back doesn’t mean something went wrong, or I failed, people can say whatever, I’m happy. I come from nothing, I worked hard to play in Europe and I came back because of personal reasons, that’s all – not about failing.”
